Animal Portraits
I paint portraits of your pets or wildlife in watercolor on request. I like to take my time when painting. I want to capture the spirit and character of each animal. I have a dog, so I know how important the details are. I take on average 8 to 10 hours to make an 8x10 (20x25cm or A6) painting. I do this over several days for 2 main reasons: to always be fresh and relaxed to paint and to make sure each coat is dry before adding another one. It is hard to stay focused for more than two and a half hours at a time. For example, I do eyes with a magnifying glass and it can take me up to 2 hours for a single eye. I don't do figurative backgrounds, only a color gradient like the examples above. I work on very thick cotton paper. Watercolor is a paint that is very sensitive to humidity and light. It is therefore recommended to frame it to maintain the vibrancy of the colors in the long term.
How do I order a portrait?
Send me an email with your contact details and a short description of the animal in question, along with at least one clear photo. The best thing is to send me several so that I can choose the one that will give the best results. If none of the photos are good enough, I may refuse to do the painting.
In any case, I will then contact you by phone (if possible) or by email and we will discuss further on what you had in mind.
When we have agreed, I will send you an estimate including the price, approximate time of creation and postal fees if you decide to have it delivered. I require a 20% non-refundable deposit before starting. As soon as I receive it, I will begin painting.

Those who choose mail delivery will receive their painting in a crystal clear pouch. For residents of the Laurentians and around, I can frame it for you if you come to pick it up. A white or black frame with a white passe-partout is provided for small formats (8x10). For larger formats, it needs to be custom-made; I can get you a 10% discount at Hachem stores if I take care of it.
